Do we trust the cloud ...... What Does the Celebrity iPhone Hack Teach Us About Online Security?

I distinctly remember, on the GIUG visit to Harwell, that we were told that 'the cloud' was safe and secure and could never be hacked !!

In light of recent events .... How do we feel now?

I don't quite agree that the cloud was presented as impossible to breach, only extremely difficult with many barriers in place to reduce the risk as much as possible. We did contend at Harwell that in future it was likely that a newstory would break of a breach, but to dismiss the cloud for those leaks was missing the point. Like a bank several hundred years ago trying to pursuade people to deposit their cash instead of hide it under the bed. Would I sign up to Apple to deposit data?...the cloud needs to offer more than I could get from keeping it myself...and I'm not sure it is truly doing that yet.
